Good to know

Your kit questions, answered.

What can I make with this kit?

Rings, necklace pendants, cufflinks, charms — even a pet tag. Carve and shape the wax, and we’ll cast it in solid sterling silver as standard. Each casting code covers one piece; the kit can be used again and again.

Is this a beading or craft jewellery kit?

No. There are no beads, wire or resin. You carve your design in specialist jewellers’ wax, post it back, and we cast it in solid recycled silver by lost-wax casting, then hand-finish it. You get real precious-metal jewellery.

What do I get for £45, and for £135?

The £45 kit holds blue carving wax shapes, a carving blade, steel spade and spoon tools, a needle file, two sandpapers, a return tin, a UK Freepost envelope and access to The Makers Table. You pay to cast each piece when you return it. The £135 kit adds a casting voucher for your first silver piece.

Do I cast the metal at home?

No. You carve the wax and we do the casting, so you need no furnace, torch or molten metal. Your wax melts away in the kiln at our partners in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, and solid silver or gold takes its exact shape.

Can I cast in gold or platinum?

Yes. Choose your metal on the wax return form. Gold and platinum are priced by the weight of your wax, so you only pay for what you’ve made. We weigh it, send a quote, and you decide.

How long does it take?

We typically aim for 5–7 weeks from the moment we receive and check in your wax. More complex specifications can take a little longer.

Is it safe for children?

With adult supervision, yes. The kit contains sharp tools and can only be purchased by over-18s, but there are plenty of safe techniques for younger makers.

What are casting vouchers?

A pre-paid promise to turn your wax into real jewellery. Each voucher covers up to 2g of wax — plenty for most designs. Heavier pieces get a small surcharge.

How is this different from the Heirloom fingerprint pack?

This kit is for carving your own design. Want a loved one’s fingerprint, toe or paw cast as a pendant instead? Our Heirloom Wax™ Impression Pack captures it in soft wax, from £10.

Is this the wedding ring workshop in Sheffield?

No. The kit is for making at home. To carve your wedding bands together with us in Kelham Island, Sheffield, book the Wedding Studio, from £375 with silver included.
